When water enters this tank, it gives the resin calcium and magnesium ions, which are in excess in the water, and instead receives from the resin sodium ions. The so-called "ion substitution" takes place. After that, the water is already soft and heated or fed to a cold water tap.

     To ensure that the resin does not lose its properties, it is updated with a certain periodicity of regeneration. That is, they return the lost sodium ions to it. For this purpose, a solution of sodium chloride is passed through the resin. The entire regeneration process is automatic and does not require human intervention.
